Equally delightful, though, are Fanning’s more subdued looks—and nowhere was that more evident than in the photo she posted to Instagram yesterday wearing tailoring by The Row. Currently on the promo trail in support of her new show on Hulu, The Girl From Plainville, Fanning and her stylist Samantha McMillen used her latest outing to deliver a masterclass in razor-sharp suiting. Wearing a sleek navy blue jacket gently nipped in at the waist and trousers cut to provide a slight flare, Fanning went for a simple light blue button-down with an oversized collar buttoned up to the top, before completing the look with a few choice pieces of pared-back jewelry by Anita Ko, including a pair of classic hoop earrings.
As The Row’s designs are known to do, the look’s palpable sense of luxury lay in its subtle details, such as the absence of a lapel to create a more minimalist silhouette, or the squared-off hem of the jacket, cut just so in order to sit halfway down the thigh. Even when she’s going for a more restrained look, Fanning proved once again that she knows exactly how to wear clothes—and ensure they never wear her.
